The primary tourist draw - the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad - is  owned and operated by the States of New Mexico and Colorado. Recent  increased funding for the railroad has boosted tourism dramatically over the past 3 years. Improved marketing efforts will translate into greater profitability for local businesses. In addition, a "Main Street Improvement Project," completed in 2004,  includes new curbs, gutters and sidewalks, old-fashioned gaslight- styled street lighting, landscaping and an inviting park welcomes visitors.

The Hotel retains its original 1930’s flavor, charm and appeal.  Mechanical systems have been upgraded to today’s standards for reliability and energy efficiency and the lobby area has been enlarged to accommodate the new gift shops.

Plaster walls, original stained wood paneling and trim give the appearance this New Mexico treasure has been frozen in time in this most beautiful historic setting.  Bathroom fixtures, mainly original, are excellent in appearance and working condition.

Each of the 11 rooms includes private bath and the owners enjoy spacious updated living quarters.

Best of all, The Hotel and Shops enjoy Chama’s premier downtown main street location, directly across from the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad and new "Chama Clock Park"Is there anything better than enjoying that morning cup of coffee on the deck while watching the steam locomotives and trains being readied for the day’s events?
